Evansville African American Museum Ron Glass Scholarship

Ron Glass was a graduate of the University of Evansville with a degree in drama and literature.  A two-time Emmy nominee, Glass was a regular on the police comedy Barney Miller; he later went on to play Felix in The New Odd Couple, and Shepherd Book in Firefly.  Active in the community, Glass served on the boards of the American Repertory Dance Company, the Ka-Ron Lehman Dancers, and St. Thomas University.

Glass was also the chairman of the Al Wooten, Jr. Heritage Center in Los Angeles, California, and served as Evansville African American Museum’s National Capital Campaign Chairman.  He received the Indiana Governor's Art Award, the Key to the City of Evansville, and the Medal of Honor from the University of Evansville.  Mr. Glass passed away in December 2016.

Eligibility/Criteria:

 

  • Must be an African American student
  • Must be a graduating High School senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale enrolling in the University of Evansville in the Fall
  • Must live in the Evansville Tristate area
  • Must demonstrate commitment to public service, social justice, global consciousness
  • Must complete scholarship application
