Rease Henry McDaniel Memorial Scholarship

Rease Henry McDaniel Memorial Scholarship

Annual scholarship created in memory of Rease Henry McDaniel, a 1985 graduate of Harrison High School, who passed away in 1986 after a courageous battle against cancer during his four years of high school.  Determined to conquer the disease, he not only maintained a high scholastic average but also was involved in many activities including marching band, Boy Scouts, and newspaper delivery.

Rease traveled extensively during high school, making trips to Yugoslavia, Italy, the 1985 National Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia, Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and Washington DC with the Close-Up Foundation.  At graduation, Rease earned several scholarships and entered the University of Evansville as a pre-med student.

Three weeks later he was forced to withdraw because of medical problems.  Before his death, Rease expressed his desire to help others with the money he had earned for college as a newspaper carrier and from various scholarships awarded to him.  Rease’s contribution, together with those of friends and relatives, made this ongoing scholarship possible.
